Course Details

Beginning writers receive the opportunity to develop and hone their skills in this introductory course. Half of each class is devoted to the examination and discussion of an aspect of literary technique, such as character, setting, plot, point-of-view, structure or revision. The other half is a workshop session in which constructive and supportive feedback will help writers focus, polish and deepen their work.

This course is offered in-class and online.

This course takes about 7 hours a week. The more time students invest in writing and reading, the more rewarding the experience. Students interact with the instructor on a regular basis through forum discussions and email. The course is not in real time, so students can customize their schedules. For writers with little experience, who are seeking to learn the basic elements of creative writing and information on how to get published. Students experiment with different forms of writing, are introduced to the process of self-editing and revising, and engage in lively discussion with other students.
