Course Details

This first course in the Facility Management Certificate covers key areas of the discipline's body of knowledge, including the typology of facilities, building systems and the associated built environment; the basic concepts of real estate and property management; and the regulatory and legal dimensions of facilities management.

You will also learn basic concepts behind the financing, operations and maintenance of facilities, as well as the issues related to facility management in different organizations. A review of strategic planning, project management, technological innovation, quality improvement and risk management round out your introduction to the foundations of facility management.  .

This course qualifies for 36 professional development units (PDUs).

Learner Outcomes

  • Fundamental understanding of the key areas within the Facility Management's body of knowledge
  • Understanding of the basic concepts of real estate, property management and the regulatory and legal dimensions of facility management
  • Understanding of basic concepts in financing, operations and maintenance of facilities
  • Understanding of basic concepts in strategic planning and project management
  • Ability to address issues in the management of facilities: technological innovation, quality improvement and risk management
