Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)

A Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) is an advanced standing or course exemption application towards a required course towards a specific School of Continuing Studies (SCS) certificate program.

This application is intended for individuals who have completed the learning outcomes of a course external to the School of Continuing Studies (e.g., from another educational institution or prior work experience).

Note: This application form applies towards SCS certificate programs only. Any applications received for U of T degree programs or certificates offered externally from SCS will not be processed.

Conditions

PLA application fees are non-refundable with the exception of PLA applications submitted on the basis of a verified UofT degree program course.

All decisions are final. No appeals will be accepted.

• Not all certificate programs are eligible for a PLA or have a maximum of PLAs that can be exempted. Please refer to the certificate description page on our website to determine what (if any) courses are eligible for a PLA.
• Applicants are required to provide the relevant supporting documentation based on the assessment category chosen as the basis for their application to be considered. Applicants are encouraged to provide as much supporting documentation that demonstrates they have obtained the learning outcomes of the course they are seeking an exemption from.
