1863 - Writing Short Fiction: Master Class
Course Description
This graduate-level workshop is more than the final step in the short fiction stream - it's an opportunity to work with a respected short fiction writer and discover a community immersed in the genre. This is where you can hone your short stories with the goal of eventual publication. Class time will be divided between analyses of texts, and workshopping students' work. Students should come to this course with one or two short stories-in-progress (early/rough drafts, 3000 words each, max) that they are ready to receive feedback on.
Learning Outcomes
• Trust and follow your own instincts for how to write short stories that excite and compel you.
• Exchange encouraging, constructive feedback with other writers, and incorporate constructive criticism into your own work.
• Engage in writing exercises to create new material, and participate in discussions around aspects of craft.
• Build your knowledge of short fiction markets and publications, and honour your own unique writing path.
• Complete two short fiction pieces, and gain confidence about the revision process.
Prerequisites
