Course Description

Compelling writing requires risk. The stories that readers are drawn to are the narratives in which the writer has courageously examined complex human experiences with vulnerability, honesty and a very big bold heart. It takes courage to write the truth that lives deep inside of you. When you write exactly what you think, about what obsesses you, what scares you, what you intensely desire to fully understand, readers will connect very deeply with your stories. Ultimately, as you write, you must make yourself cry and laugh. You must inspire yourself. Then, you will uplift readers - the greatest achievement of all.

Learning Outcomes

  • How to take wise risks. There's no point in going to the party if you're going to stand in the corner with your hands in your pockets wearing dark sunglasses. You must mingle.
  • How to blast through illusions and morph into a courageous truth machine!
  • Become a big-eyed fly on the wall. To create raw, funny, sad, frightening, and truly up-lifting stories, you must be able to catch and write the nuance in human behaviours and intricate scenes. Through specific techniques and strong intention, you will understand how to develop your insect-radar.
  • How to use intense emotions to electrify your work. Emotions are the bedrock of art. Riding the waves of emotions as you create art is challenging but necessary and ultimately deeply rewarding. Great art is created on an intuitive cellular level.
  • Discover the age-old rules for a well-told story and always use them. Nothing great is created without wise and consistent effort, and a back-pack of specific literary tools. 
  • Commitment in life and writing. This is not about perfection. It's about tenacity and follow-through. Action creates outcome. Understand how to act while allowing time for your stories to brew to the right temperature.
