3840 - Writing Flash Fiction in Spanish / El Microrrelato
Course Description
This eight week course examines the history and development of flash fiction in the Spanish language. During the classroom lectures, you will discover some of the best and most relevant flash fiction written in Latin America and Spain, and will learn how to analyze and place it within its literary context. Besides reading the work of distinguished writers, you will learn about the theory of the microrrelato as a genre, and will identify its key elements. This knowledge will be used to write microrrelatos of your own, through in-class exercises, and also using your own creativity.
En este curso de ocho semanas se examinará la historia y el desarrollo del microrrelato en español. Durante las sesiones, los participantes descubrirán algunos de los mejores y más importantes microrrelatos escritos en América Latina y España, y aprenderán cómo analizarlos y ubicarlos dentro de su contexto literario. Además de leer el trabajo de escritores destacados, aprenderán sobre la teoría del microrrelato como género y cómo identificar sus elementos principales. Estos conocimientos los podrán poner en práctica al escribir sus propios microrrelatos, tanto a través de ejercicios hechos en clase como usando su propia imaginación.
Learning Outcomes

- To become familiar with theoretical approaches to the writing and analysis of flash fiction.
- To apply literary skills and editing techniques in the effective writing of short fiction.
- To develop constructive criticism in the framework of a workshop model.
Objetivos del curso:
- Adquirir un conocimiento amplio sobre la historia del microrrelato en español.
- Familiarizarse con la teoría de la escritura y análisis del microrrelato.
- Poner en práctica los conocimientos adquiridos para escribir microrrelatos de calidad.
- Dar y recibir crítica constructiva dentro del marco de un taller literario.
