0081 - Quantitative Methods for Business Management
Course Description
In today's competitive world, good business decisions must be based on accurate statistical analysis. If you can gather, correctly interpret and present compelling data, you can help your organization improve operational processes, increase revenues, direct new developments and retain valued customers. In this course, you'll learn the essential techniques for describing and measuring data and understanding probability concepts. You'll also explore standard sampling methods and hypothesis testing, linear regression, correlation, time series and forecasting.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand essential statistical concepts and techniques that lead to better decision-making and superior investment analysis.
- Describe, measure and present quantitative data according to frequency, location and dispersion.
- Recognize and apply useful probability concepts.
- Become fluent in formal statistical sampling methods and their application.
Prerequisites
High school algebra. Comfortable with using common mathematical functions, graphs, equations, and numerical manipulations. Knowledge of scientific calculators is essential, and knowledge of financial calculators is optional.

Masoud has been teaching this statistics course with the University of Toronto, School of Continuing Studies, as well as several economics courses with the University of Toronto, Department of Economics, for the past 20 years. Before this, he has taught many economics courses at Columbia University, NY, while doing research using application of advanced quantitative methods, large databases, and econometric modelling techniques for major corporations, country national projects, and some regional and continental projects. He has received an MPhil and two master degrees from Columbia University in New York.
