Course Description
Graphic Novels are one of the fastest growing segments of the publishing industry and this trend is predicted to continue. To write your own comics and graphic novels, you’ll need to learn to speak the language of comics. This course is open to both writers and artists interested in exploring the formal structures of the comics page, the intricacies of the word-image relationship, and the expressive power of comics and sequential art. We’ll cover technical, practical, and professional best practices for making comics and bringing them to the marketplace. Open to learners at all levels of experience, this is a supportive space to develop your ideas, strengthen your skills, and workshop your project with a community of like-minded creators.

Amy Noseworthy (they/them) is an illustrator, cartoonist, and teacher whose work explores the intersection of queerness, neurodivergence, and autobiography. Amy studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, in the Cartooning and Illustration program at George Brown College, and they hold a master's degree in interdisciplinary art and design from OCADu. Their comics have been featured in The Grind Magazine, Plumbago Magazine and Diverse Minds magazine, and several anthologies - including the Ignatz Award winning Pulping: Volume 1. Their webcomic Normal Human Adult is available on Instagram (@hiredhandstudio) and they are currently hard at work on their first book-length project - Mamahood: Comic Adventures in Queer Parenting.
