Writers need more than talent and tenacity to achieve success. They must learn to promote themselves and their manuscripts to audiences and stakeholders. In this course, you’ll learn how to adopt proven entrepreneurial techniques to build a network of supporters and create a shared vision they embrace. Whether you work on your own or collaborate with others, you’ll learn to create a personalized business plan that reflects your goals and sustains your energy and ambition in the face of inevitable setbacks.Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you'll be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to write a concise writer’s business plan aligned with a “play-to-win” strategy or another established strategic framework for launching a new venture.
- Create a mission, vision, and values plan that reflects the writer’s entrepreneurial goals and aspirations. What are the goals for the publication? What audiences, format, what style?
- Develop a 1, 3, and 5-year plan with quarterly priorities mapped against a clear, strategic vision.
- Show an understanding of the principles of entrepreneurship and how they apply to writing as an endeavour.
- Be able to orally present the history of entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial journeys of writers.
- Display self-promotional and manuscript promotional skills.
- Exhibit resilience and perseverance in the face of setbacks and challenges.
- Show a capacity to build a network of collaborators and supporters who help to achieve entrepreneurial goals.
These learning outcomes will provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of entrepreneurship in the context of writing. By the end of the course, students will have developed the skills and knowledge they need to succeed as entrepreneurially oriented writers, whether their goal is commercial success or impact, or personal satisfaction.
