Course Description
Project management is both an art and a science. Knowing and applying the key tools and techniques required to manage waterfall projects, (also known as traditional or predictive projects) will help you add value as a team member or project leader. The course is designed for those with some project management knowledge and experience wanting to gain in-depth knowledge and practice applying the tools and techniques to manage predictive projects. In this practical course, you will apply tools and techniques such as decomposition, make-or-buy, estimating, schedule compression, contingency development, and earned value management.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you'll be able to:
- Construct a WBS to control project activities based on requirements
- Design a project procurement and contract management approach to support project success
- Design a project estimating approach to address the estimating challenges on the project
- Construct a project schedule to address resource and time constraints
- Formulate the project contingency
- Design a project control system and acceptance criteria

This course replaces the 1937 Project Implementation and Control (PIC) course. For those who have already completed the 1937 course, we will continue to honour it towards the completion of the Certificate in Project Management.
Basic Software Skills Required for the Course:
- This course requires that learners have knowledge of Excel and recommends basic familiarity with at least one software scheduling tool (such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Primavera, or Apple equivalent), as basic skills are required to complete course assignments.
- Assignments requiring project management software have been designed to be completed within a typical 30-day software trial window (i.e. Smartsheet) for learners who do not wish to purchase additional software.
- Any of the above tools may be used to successfully to complete assignments in the course, but assignments must be submitted in MS Word or PDF files.
- Different employers may expect/require a working knowledge of any of the available tools.

Required Prerequisites: 1860 Foundations of Project Management course (or equivalent 3401 Practical Project Management Part 1 & 3402 Practical Project Management Part 2). These are required pre-requisites and must be completed before enrolling.This course is recognised by the following association(s). Click on the association name for details.
